Education and Qualifications
2006 – 2009 Edinburgh Napier University
Journalism BA (Hons)
A four year course which looks at all aspects of journalism, both in the media industry and in academic studies. I am in the first semester of my final year, having successfully obtained passes in the last three years. I am looking forward to tackling my dissertation and other subjects for year four.
2005 – 2006 Móinín na gCiseach, Galway – Community College, Galway, Ireland
PLC (2nd level) course in print journalism. This was the course that helped qualify me for Edinburgh Napier. Many aspects of journalism was discussed, hard news, research, media analysis, desktop publishing and communications, I also completed a two week work placement with Eclectic Meme, a 24 hour internet radio station in which I reviewed the station’s music for the website. Awarded record of achievement (FETAC).
2001 – 2004 Back to Work Allowance Scheme – Galway City Partnership.
This involved a self-employment initiative in which I was a bodhran player involved with traditional music sessions in Galway and the making of CDs with other musicians.
1999 – 2001 Access Music Project – Galway City Partnership / F.A.S
Certificate of achievement, credits gained in music in theory 2nd level.
Course involved group collaborations with other musicians, learning a
new instrument (banjo), studio engineering and producing a CD of our work.
1997 – 1999 VEC Calbro House, Tuam Road, Galway, Ireland
Radio Sound, Media Analysis and Sound Engineering (VTOS)
Record of achievement. Course involved photography, media analysis
broadcasting and engineering and some journalism.
My work experience comprised of hosting a traditional half hour music programme
on the student radio station Flirt FM for three months, utilising my studio experience from the course.
Other Work Experience
2006 – 2007 Jerry O’ Dea – Floor Lino Laying
I would clean the floor surfaces thoroughly in preparation for lino laying, sanding stone stairways until they were smooth and making sure large areas was dust free.
1997 Fat Freddy’s Restaurant, High Street, Galway (August – December)
1995 – 1996 John Connell Coal and Oil, Bushy Park, Galway
I delivered coal and was a sales assistant.
